Week 13 college football picks … Stop the madness! Just let Bama win

Alabama fan rageLast week, an Auburn fan was shot by an Alabama fan after an argument over which football team is better this season (the two teams play each other Saturday in the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala.).

Let’s go over that again: An Alabama fan shot the fan of another team because he felt compelled to defend his football team’s honor.

An aberration for an Alabama fan? Perhaps. And perhaps not.

Week 12 college football picks … stop picking on me!

picks college footballOn paper,  this week should be the easiest week to pick college football games. Way too many top teams playing weaker opponents, including Alabama (just a little rat poison there).

The Citadel at Clemson, Louisiana-Monroe at Auburn, Michigan at Wisconsin … it’s pathetic, really.

On with the picks …

Week 10 college football picks … again with the ‘poison,’ Nick?

College football picks Saban poisonSo last week Jim McElwain claims his Florida players and coaches were receiving death threats, which were never substantiated by the university. By Sunday, he was no longer the Gators’ head coach.

This week Alabama coach Nick Saban is once again saying his players are being fed  “poison” by the media. And … nothing! Yeah, that’s right. … He’s still the head coach.

At his weekly press conference on Monday, Saban was clear: “If our players think anything of (the college football playoff poll), then that could be an issue. These are the things we try to categorize as the poison that you really don’t want your players to be focused on.”

I say, “Double standard!” Perhaps Alabama needs to consider a Saban buyout.

But seriously, though, if McElwain beats Georgia on Saturday — instead of being worked, 42-7 — no doubt Florida officials would conveniently excuse the phantom death threats. As the saying goes: Winning cures all ills … including outrageous public claims and doses of “poison.”

On with the picks …

Week 8 college football picks … it’s bad, but not bringing in Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick, Mike McCarthy, college football picksIt’s time to pick, again without thinking. Took a beating last week just like everyone else. But I’ve invested a lot of time into this, at least 3-5 minutes this month. So, I’m not giving up.

Already heading into Week 8, I’m still at 78 percent. That’s not horrible.

So no matter what anyone thinks, I’m not bringing in Colin Kaepernick to make my picks this week, OK? Did you read that?? I can still make it through the rest of the season without bringing in someone else.

Week 6 college football picks … watch where you’re kicking, man

not thinking college football picksWhen it comes to punting, the best direction is to go up. Straight up, if possible. Last Saturday, Tennessee punter Trevor Daniel decide to go straight up in a different way. He decided to go straight up a teammate’s tush. And he missed, hitting Georgia’s D’Andre Walker.

It wasn’t the thing that lost the game 41-0 game to Georgia, but it sort of epitomized it.

It was a beautiful moment of not thinking, something I will try to emulate as I make my picks for Week 6 of the college football season.

Week 5 college football picks … is everyone on the field?

Kentucky college football thinkiingSo who wasn’t thinking last week? Have to say Kentucky and Coach Bob Stoops. The Wildcats gave up Florida’s game-winning touchdown with only TEN men on the field.

Gators quarterback Luke Del Rio hit a wide-open Freddie Swain for the 28-27 victory. Wide-open as in nobody was there to cover him.

Doh! That’s not thinking.

But sometimes I think too much. Like Week 4: Zoom to the bottom! Only had 73 percent correct on my picks. When it comes to thinking, I need to don’t stop stopping.

Week 4 college football picks … keep your eye on the camera, man

college football picks cheerleader cameramanWhen you see an NFL “cheerleader” dancing in front of you, don’t run her over with a camera.

And if you’re an NFL “cheerleader” dancing, maybe you should always keep one eye on the camera, man.

I say neither one was thinking. They should get off the football field and start making football picks. That’s what I do.

Week 3 was my worst week yet. Ugh! I only was correct on 78 percent of my picks, down from 81 percent in Week 2. I know, I know: Think less, pick better.
