Week 13 college football picks … Stop the madness! Just let Bama win

Alabama fan rageLast week, an Auburn fan was shot by an Alabama fan after an argument over which football team is better this season (the two teams play each other Saturday in the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala.).

Let’s go over that again: An Alabama fan shot the fan of another team because he felt compelled to defend his football team’s honor.

An aberration for an Alabama fan? Perhaps. And perhaps not.

Week 12 college football picks … stop picking on me!

picks college footballOn paper,  this week should be the easiest week to pick college football games. Way too many top teams playing weaker opponents, including Alabama (just a little rat poison there).

The Citadel at Clemson, Louisiana-Monroe at Auburn, Michigan at Wisconsin … it’s pathetic, really.

On with the picks …

Week 9 college football picks … this time with an important message

via GIPHY

Another tough week of picking games, but I’m still not going to start thinking about them. It wouldn’t be worth it, despite the advice I received from NBA superstar Michael Jordan.

I’m still not going to think about it, even though I’ve dropped to 77 percent success rate.

Week 5 college football picks … is everyone on the field?

Kentucky college football thinkiingSo who wasn’t thinking last week? Have to say Kentucky and Coach Bob Stoops. The Wildcats gave up Florida’s game-winning touchdown with only TEN men on the field.

Gators quarterback Luke Del Rio hit a wide-open Freddie Swain for the 28-27 victory. Wide-open as in nobody was there to cover him.

Doh! That’s not thinking.

But sometimes I think too much. Like Week 4: Zoom to the bottom! Only had 73 percent correct on my picks. When it comes to thinking, I need to don’t stop stopping.

Week 3 college football picks … ‘Here on the field … and up close’

“Coach, it sure is a pleasure to be here with you guys … here on the field … and up close … just watching … Coach Vance Joseph …”

Leave Sergio alone. That’s exactly how he was trained at ESPN. Just talk into the microphone and try not to think. And THAT’s what not thinking looks like.

Just imagine — that’s my brain functioning as I make these college football picks.  Just like Sergio Dipp.

Week 2 college football picks … ‘Your next move is crucial’

think
Jim Harbaugh, sans shirt …. He wasn’t thinking

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh gave quarterback Wilton Speight the ultimatum after a mediocre first half against Florida in Week 1.

Said Harbaugh: “Your next move is crucial, and it can go one or two ways.”

I feel you, Wilton. I didn’t struggle like you did (picked 70 winners out of 82 games; 85 percent) in my Week 1 picks — without even thinking — but I benefited from a lot of one-sided games. Making picks for Week 2 — again, without even thinking — might be tough. My next move is crucial.

But, then again, I’m still not thinking about it, so it should be about the same.

ICYMI: Cam Newton’s brother and the big payoff

Season odds HowardA few things you might have missed during the REAL opening weekend of the college football season.

Howard quarterback Caylin Newton, brother of Carolina Panthers quarterback and Heisman winner Cam Newton, led Howard, a 45-point underdog, to a 43-40 victory over UNLV. Caylin Newton had 330 yards total offense and three touchdowns.

But the real winners were those few who bet on Howard.
