A wise reporter once told me that “ESPN is a network very much in love with itself.”
The accuracy of that description floored me.
Judging from Wednesday’s news of reportedly 100 layoffs of on-air and reporting talent, including college football insiders Brett McMurphy (SEC) and Ted Miller (Pac-12), the honeymoon is over.
The College Football Playoff championship is being held in Tampa in January, and recently the College Football Playoff announced the calendar of events leading up to the big game.
Among the announced events is the 200,000-square-foot college football theme park (“Playoff Fan Central”) inside the Tampa Convention Center. The “theme park” will include football clinics for kids, pep rallies and autograph sessions. No mention of any football-themed rides. Hey, Tampa, it’s not a theme park if there are no rides. There better be rides. Just sayin’.
Christmas is closing in and you’re likely either going to get a tie or some socks. So why not drop a hint that you want socks that support the team?
Socks can be more than just items that cover your feet and absorb perspiration. They can let people know who you cheer for.
