Some bold media predictions for 2017

Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand posted predictions for sports media for the upcoming year. Among the more notable for college football fans: Fox will work out a deal to televise Big Ten football, sharing resources with the Big Ten Network.

According to Ourand’s prediction, a deal with the Big Ten and ESPN and Fox will lead to “unprecedented cooperation” between FS1 and BTN. A move like this is expected to boost ratings for FS1’s college football coverage.

FS1’s highest rated game came on Oct. 8 when Texas faced Oklahoma. That game had around 2.8 million viewers, according to data at Sports Media Watch. It’s lowest-rated game was Iowa State-TCU on Sept. 17 (280,000 viewers).

Also, Ourand writes in another prediction that ESPN will continue to lose subscribers and see its ratings dip for the seventh consecutive year.
